The Pine-Richland Football coaching staff initiated a new concept for the 2010 off-season workouts.....200 hours!! That’s how many hours of lifting, running, and conditioning we believe it will take for an individual to show total commitment and dedication to the football program. Athletes can obtain these hours in a multitude of ways starting with the winter weight room hours. Each hour that they spend in the weight room will be counted towards their goal of 200 hours. Spring "Drills for Skills" will also count as well as summer conditioning and attendance at camps. As the individual reaches a certain number of hours he will receive a different colored T-shirt to wear until he reaches another level. The goal is to get your 200 hours and receive the ultimate colored shirt. We believe that giving the athletes goals and levels of achievements to strive for helps build strength and unity as well as competition among their peers.
The winter lifting program has been broken up into two sessions, one in the morning with the older, more experienced boys and one in the afternoon with the younger kids. This was necessitated because of the large number of athletes in the room at one time. Breaking into two groups will eliminate the overcrowded condition and will allow the coaches time to work, much closer, with the younger boys on their lifting techniques that will help them realize the benefits of our weight program. The morning session will allow the older boys the opportunity to move through their workouts faster without long periods of waiting time.
We realize there are parent concerns with this new schedule and we ask that you bear with us as we iron out the wrinkles and issues. The morning workouts start at 6:00 am and will finish around 6:45. The boys will shower, be dressed, walk over to the high school for breakfast, and be in class by 7:20. The beauty of it is they will be able to come home immediately after school to do homework, get a job, sleep, eat, or socialize knowing they have put in a full day. If the weather turns bad we will be on the same schedule as the school district dictates and there will be NO lifting.
In 2010, Pine-Richland Football will begin its third year in Quad A, the largest classification in the state of Pennsylvania. With this comes a need for changes in attitude and commitment from parents, fans, players, and coaches. In order to get back to the level of success, that we once took for granted, all of us have to be willing to help each of the athletes get to their 200 hour goal by encouraging them to keep pushing and striving to succeed.
