The Pine-Richland Football program has over 200 boys involved from grades seven through twelve. There are two 7th grade teams, 8th grade, 9th grade, junior varsity, and varsity. Each team has its own coaching staff and individual schedule that is conducive to that grade level. All the teams are housed in separate locker rooms at the Pine-Richland Athletic Complex and play their home games on the new Astro-Play synthetic surface.
We believe in a strong weight lifting program and have adopted a strength training philosophy that is centered around the core lifts including the bench press, squat and dead lift with players being tested on those lifts every eight weeks. There are auxiliary lifts that the players are responsible for doing, all of which have a direct correlation to the over-all strength development of the players.
We do not believe in starting a youn gster in our lifting program too early; therefore the program is geared towards the boys in grades nine through twelve. We also include, with the lifting program, a complete course in speed development and flexibility, which has enabled our program to remain, for the most part, injury free. Our lifting days are Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays during the off-season and twice a week during the season. Lifting during the season enables our players to maintain the strength that was achieved during the off-season.
We have a very simple philosophy when it comes to who plays or who doesn't. Our goal and belief is to play the very best player at each position. There are NO politics and nobody cares who you are or how big you are, if you are better than anyone else at your position, then you play. We believe this is the only way we can be successful at this level and we strive to maintain that philosophy through-out the entire program.
The Pine-Richland Football program is fortunate to have two separate booster organizations to help fund it. The fathers have a booster group known as the "Touchdown Club" which supports the team in different ways, from purchasing lifting equipment to supplying charter buses to away games. The "Football Mothers Club" has been in existence for over 47 years and is responsible for numerous activities from feeding the boys during two-a-day practices, to funding a year-end banquet for over 500 people. Without the support and dedication of these two organizations, the Ram Football Program would not be what it is today.
Throughout the year the Rams are involved in different team building activities including lift-a-thons among themselves and against other schools, Ram Olympics, 7 on 7 team passing camps at West Virginia University and Westminster College as well as a "Linemen's Challenge". We believe in having our players active year-round in some form of activity and we encourage them to be involved with other Pine-Richland sports teams. We want our players to be well-rounded young men so that once they graduate they can become contributing members of our society. Our goal is to take your child as a boy and return him to you as a man.
